BIOGRAPHY
Levi David Kean was born in Canada in 1856 of Canadian parents. He
married Margaret about 1880. She was also born in Canada in September
1860, and her parents were immigrants from Scotland. Their first child,
known only by his initials A. D., was born in Canada in 1882, and they
immigrated to the United States the following year. They are next found in
California where their son Albert Kean
was born in 1885. Their next residence may have been in Oregon where their
son Benjamin Kean was born in 1892. Their next move was to Houston,
Texas, where Lineham Kean was born in 1895, and Levi was working as
a real estate agent. By 1900 the family was living in Meyers Creek,
Washington, where Levi was again employed in real estate and his son A. D.
Kean, age 18, was a miner. In 1910 they were living in Charleston,
Washington and Levi lists his employment as real estate "Own Place."
Levi died before the 1920 census, when his widow Margaret was living in
Bremerton, Washington, with her sons Albert and Lineham, who were both
working at the Navy Yard, as was their brother Benjamin. Margaret died
after the 1930 census was taken, when she was enumerated at age 70.
Benjamin Kean married Mary Sherik about 1916-1917, and they had
two known children, Benjamin J. Kean and Wallace R. Kean,
both born in Washington.
Lineham Kean went to Alaska as a carpenter's helper for the Alaskan
Engineering Company where he completed his draft registration in 1917. He
returned before 1920 when he was living with his mother in Bremerton. He's
next we found in Sacrament, California, working as a "greeter" for an
automobile dealer. The 1930 census is confusing. Living with Lineham is
Earl A. Tucker, Jr., son, age 7, and "father" James W. Tucker,
age 76, born Ohio, who is a clerk in a hotel. Did Lineham marry a widow,
and is Earl Tucker his step-son? Is James Tucker his father-in-law?
