BIOGRAPHY
Disclaimer:
Until a marriage or death certificate is found for Herman Muller, son of John David Muller, the following is speculation based on the few scraps of evidence found primarily in census records.

Tracing Herman Muller has been difficult.  In 1870 and 1880 he worked as a clerk in his parents’ shop.  As his father was a cooper, it is believed he may be the Herman Muller living in Brooklyn in 1910, who was also a cooper, married to Caroline.  The ages in the census reports match, as well as his place of birth and where his parents were born.  Herman Muller was never buried in the family plot in the Lutheran Cemetery in Middle Village, Queens, NY, as were so many of the Muller family, which leads one to believe he moved away from the New York City area.

Herman and Caroline had four children: Adeline, Amelia, John F., and Ida.

Herman disappears after the 1910 census, and probably after the marriage of his daughter Amelia in 1914.
His widow Caroline is found living across the Hudson River in the Village of Pearl River, Orangetown, Rockland County, NY, in 1920.  Three of her children lived close by, so Herman may have died in Pearl River.  Living with Caroline in 1920 were her son-in-law George W. Naugle, daughter Ida V. (Miller) Naugle, and their children George W. and Charles A. Naugle.  Next door to Caroline were living Peter L. Lamereaux and his wife Adeline.  Also living in Pearl River was Caroline’s son John F. Miller his wife Lila G. (Ricker) Miller and their son John A. Miller.  Caroline’s fourth child Amelia married William Kinley, and they lived in Brooklyn with their children Raymond and Elizabeth.  By 1930 Amelia and William Kinley had also moved to Pearl River.
