BIOGRAPHY
In the 1920 census for Henry Eulner's son William Eulner, William
states his father was born "Hesen" and his mother "Casel." Henry Eulner
was born about 1824, and, as he was naturlized in 1844 at about the age
twenty, we can assume he arrived before 1839.
Henry Eulner married Catherine____ about 1828, and she was also born in
Hesse in the city of, or area around, Kassel. As the family was found only
in the 1850 and 1880 censuses they probably had more children than we can
identify from these records. Their children were all born in New York.
Valentine Eulner, born about 1845, who may have died before the
1880 census.
William Eulner, born 1 Jan 1848, died between 1920 and 1930 in
Brooklyn, NY
Henry Eulner, born March-April 1850
[probably some children born during the 1850s]
Theodore Eulner, born about 1863, died 3 May 1898
Louis Eulner, born about 1865. He may be the Charles Eulner, age 37
who died 30 Sept. 1892
Emilie Eulner, born about 1866
Caroline Eulner, born Sept. 1869,
married George P. Stritzky
Lotta [Charlotte] Eulner, born about 1873
In 1850 Henry was living in New York City in the Lower East Side and was a
frame maker. By 1869 he was a policeman, and he was still employed in this
occupation as late as 1897 at the age of 73. His sons William and
Theodore were bookbinders, son Louis was a smith, and Henry Eulner Jr.,
was a carpenter in. As his will was proved in Kings County in June of
1899, we can assume he died about this time.
WILLIAM EULNER
Henry's son William Eulner has been the easiest to trace. The name
of his first wife was Kate and they had the following children:
William H. Eulner, called Willie, born July 1880; Mary F Eulner,
born March 1882; Walter Edward Eulner, born 3 Sep 1884; and
Florence L. Eulner, born 19 Nov, 1886. Florence married a man named
Smith and they had one daughter Dorothy Smith. Florence's husband
died in the 1910s.
After Kate died William married second Anna___, about 1889 and they
had a son Charles Alfred Eulner, born 16 Apr 1895. William Eulner
was thirteen years older than Anna. The family moved to Brooklyn before
1910, and William died there in the 1920s. Anna continued to live in their
home, which was valued at $7,000 in 1930, and she rented out rooms to two
families.
