BIOGRAPHY
Gotlieb Ernst, Jr. arrived in New York at the young age of one. In 1900, at the age of twenty, he worked as an office boy, by 1920 was a machinist. He married Maria, also called "Mamie" and they had two children: George Ernst born about 1904-1905 and Viola Ernst, born about 1909-1910.

In 1930 Mamie Ernst was living with her sister Carrie and her husband Emil Baumgartel, and although she stated she was married, Gotlieb is not living there. At this time neither of the children were married and all were working.  Mamie was a seamstress in a factory; Viola was a stenographer for an Insurance Company, and George Ernst (III) age 25, was already a superintendent at a Power Plant.
