BIOGRAPHY
As the Hine family goes back to the earliest days of settlement in the
Massachusetts Bay Colony the earlier generations are not included
herein.
George W. Hine was born on Oxford, Connecticut, and in 1850 owned a small
farm in Naugatuck valued at $1000. His sister Alvira [indexed as
Almira] was living with him at the time. During the 1850s George
must have attended law school as this was his occupation in 1850 through
1880. George married first Louise M. Brown, purportedly in 1863, and they
had one child George, born about 1858. Louise may have died in child
birth, or shortly thereafter, as George married the following year
Eliza Flinn. George died in 1893 and was
buried at Gunntown Cemetery, Naugatuck, CT where his parents Reuben
and Sally Shelton Hine are also buried.
