BIOGRAPHY
George Baumgartel was the only child of Emil and Carrie Baumgartel, born
November 9, 1891, probably in Brooklyn, NY. In 1917 George was a
lithographer - transferor for a bank. Two
years later he married Estelle Thompson, on September 10th, in Brooklyn, NY.
They had two children in 1930, Grace Baumgartel, born about 1922, and
Robert Baumgartel, born about 1924.
Estelle Thompson was born August 28, 1894 and died in Washington on
July 9, 1991 at the age of 97 years. She never remarried after George died
in 1957, but moved west, probably to live with her son Robert Baumgartel,
who was living in Grandview, WA in 1974.
The WWI draft registration provides us with George's full name, George Jake Baumgartel.
In the 1930 census he states he is a veteran of the World War. The
Social Security Death Index does not give a place of death. Although issued in New York before 1951,
it does not necessarily mean
he died in New York. Estelle did not remarry.
