BIOGRAPHY
Ernest Ahlburg was born in Sweden, immigrated to New York City on 06
May 1886, and was
naturalized
11 Dec 1899. At the time of his naturalization Ernest Ahlburg was
living in the same building as his future father-in-law
Edward Frey, at 700 E.
166th Street.
Ernest married Anna Frey about 1904
and in 1910 they were living in the same house as Anna's parents Edward
and Minnie Frey. Edward Frey was a saloon keeper but retired before 1920
when it appears Ernest Ahlburg took over the business as the manager of
the saloon. Anna worked as a janitor in 1915, perhaps at the saloon, since
it was unusual for a mother of two young children to work outside the home
at that time.
Ernest Ahlberg invested in real estate in the area of Castle Hill and
Uniontown in the Bronx, as was his Edward Frey.

Ernest and Anna had two daughters. Anita Ahlburg was born 11 Arpil
1907 and married Ralph Edward Purinton. Her Social Security Number
was issued in Rhode Island before 1951, but she died 4 August 1980 in
Broward County, Florida. Her husband Ralph Puriton died in 1954.
Their other daughter was
Irene Ahlburg, born 6 Nov 1910. Irene was Miss USA of 1926. She took
the stage name Irene Ware and was a movie star in the 1930s. It is
stated she married first the screenwriter John Meehan Jr, and
second the federal judge Fred Campbell. Irene Ware lived in
Encinitas, San Diego Coiunty, California, and died in Orange County,
California on March 11 1993, at the age of 82.
