BIOGRAPHY
Emil Baumgartel was probably born November 1872 in New York and married
Carrie___. Carrie was born April 19, 1873, in Brooklyn, the
daughter of Swiss parents. Emil was a machinist throughout his life.
They lived in Brooklyn in 1900, in Queens in 1910, in Woodlawn in 1920,
and then moved to 7 Fargo Street in Baldwin Village where we find them in
1930.
Emil and Carrie had one child, George Bumgartel. We don't know when Emil
died, but Carrie lived to the great age of 102, dying in 1975.
In 1930 census Emil's sister-in-law "Mamie" Ernst and her children
Viola Ernst and George Ernst were living with Emil and Carrie.
Mamie was enumerated as Maria Ernst in the 1920 census, married to
Gotleib
Ernst, Jr., a machinist who was born in Switzerland. Although not a
direct family member we are interested in identifying the maiden name of
Carrie and thus provide more information on the family of
Gotleib Ernst, Sr. and his children.
