BIOGRAPHY
In 1880, 1892 and 1900 August Schroeder was a machinist. Considering this,
he may be the August Schroeder, son of Henry Schroeder and Eliza
found in the 1870
census, Ward 17, NYC. This August Schroeder, age 20, was also a
machinist. In the 1870 census it states Henry, Eliza and their son August were
all born in Mecklenburg, but Henry's two youngest children, Mamie and
Bertha, were born in New York. Possibly they immigrated shortly before
or after August's birth in 1851.
Henry Schroeder was a tailor.
August Schroeder lived on the Lower
East Side in 1880, but had moved to the
Bedford-Stuyvesant
area of Brooklyn before 1900, where he owned his home with no mortgage.
